African Union Conducts ASC Training For EASF Staff
During the 7th week of 2018, the African Union, through the Peace Support Operations Division (PSOD) successfully conducted some Civilian Roster Management Training at the EASF Secretariat in Nairobi, Kenya.
The training, which ran from 12th to 16th February, was aimed at equipping the newly appointed Rostering Officer as well as the Human Resource Officer with skills to manage the African Standby Capacity System (ASC). The system comprises software tools and a database which capture personnel data of trained civilians on the African continent who are ready and willing to be deployed in Peace Support Operations (PSOs).
Among the 5 Continental Standby Forces which operate under the umbrella of the African Union, EASF has demonstrated a leadership position in personnel rostering activities due to it's well developed training curriculums, properly equipped training personnel and the use of a regional roster, developed as early as 2010.
The EASF regional roster, available to Civilians in all EASF 10 Member States, has continued to provide the African Standby Capacity System with high quality feeds as far as personnel data pertaining to deployable subjects in the Eastern African region is concerned. Upcoming talent is usually maintained and nurtured at regional level until it absorbs the relevant trainings deemed as prerequisites for entry in the African Standby Capacity System.
The African Union team was led by the Civilian Senior Rostering Officer Mr. Eustace Chiwombe, accompanied by Mr. Fabian Metze from the German Center for International Peace Operations (ZIF) and two other officers.
