EASF Director Brig. Gen. Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa officially launched an Elections' Observer Mission to the Republic of Seychelles on 8th October 2020 at the Secretariat in Karen, Nairobi.

EASF's contingent of 10 experts from its Member States seeks to support the democratic process through observation and objective assessment of the election process in line with the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance (ACDEG). The ACDEG was adopted by the African Union (AU) in 2007 as a road-map to encourage better governance across the continent. It sets out international standards of good governance as well as free and fair elections.

During the event, the Director called upon the team to carry out its mandate in the most efficient and effective way. Brig. Gen. Fayisa reiterated EASF's commitment to maintain peace and security across the region even in times of ravaging challenges caused by Covid-19. He expressed great confidence in the team's professionalism in executing its mandate as it has done throughout the intricate planning process.

According to the Republic of Seychelles Covid-19 control measures, arriving travelers are expected to undergo a fourteen-day quarantine session. The team factored this requirement during the mission planning and will thus be arriving in Victoria, Seychelles on 9th October. The general elections will be held from 22nd to 24th October, 2020.
