EASF High-Level Meeting Forging New Partnerships
The EASF high-level Meeting was held on Wednesday, September 2023 at the Holiday Inn Hotel, in Nairobi. Ambassadors from various countries, Diplomatic Corps and Representative of different International Organizations attended the Meeting.
In his opening address, the Chairperson of the Eastern Africa Ministers of Defense and Security, Hon. Minister Aden DUALE accentuated the need to have such mechanisms like the EASF for effective conflict management and in building trust and cooperation among nations thus reducing the risk of conflict escalation. He highlighted the importance of the existing partnerships between EASF and international partners in the noble task of maintaining peace and security in the Eastern Africa region and beyond.
On his part the Chairperson of Friends of EASF, the Danish Ambassador H.E Stephan Schoonemann welcomed the Ambassadors present, he further talked about some of the major achievements of the EASF and also called on those present to foster new partnerships with the organization. The EASF Director, Brig (Rtd) Paul Kahuria Njema thanked those present for attending the important meeting despite their busy schedules. The Director acknowledged the support and engagement of the Friends and Partners of EASF in mobilizing resources and providing technical support towards achieving EASF’s mandate.
Ambassadors and other distinguished delegates had an opportunity to learn more about the various thematic areas where EASF is looking for partnership and coordination namely in mediation, dialogue, democracy, governance, gender, transitional justice and many more. The civilian advisor also gave a brief on the International Advisory and Coordination Staff (IACS). The meeting ended with a plenary session.
