Open Source Intelligence Training Concludes

As part of operationalization of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Early Warning Mechanism (E-WARN), a one-week Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) training was started on Monday, 1st April 2019, at International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) in Nairobi, Kenya.

The course was intended to provide the participants with a range of research and analytical skills that can be used to enhance situational awareness, threat and conflict monitoring, issue management and crisis response. This in turn enhances capacity development, optimizes individual skills and consequently augments institutional response and productivity of the Early Warning Structure of EASF.
 
During his opening remarks, the Head of Peace Operations Department Brig. Albert Kendagor underscored the importance of the training in increasing the ability of the conflict analysts in terms of gathering and analyzing information for the EASF region. Such endeavors help in preventing or controlling conflicts that might occur in the beginning stage.

The OSINT Course explored a broad range of intelligence, analytical skills and security objectives, including Early Warning, conflict analysis, intelligence analysis, strategic foresight and scenario planning.

The course was attended by eighteen participants. These represented EASF, AU, EAC, COMESA, Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda.

The course, which came to an end on 5th April 2019, was fully funded by Nordic Advisory Coordination Staff (NACS).
