EASF hosts the African Standby Capacity Meeting
The Eastern Africa Standby Force(EASF) is hosting the 7th African Standby Capacity(ASC) Annual Coordination three-days meeting which started on 24th April 2019 at Ibis Styles Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya.
The aim of the meeting is to enhance coordination and collaboration among the AU Commission, the Regional Economic Communities (RECs), Regional Mechanisms(RMs) and Training Institutions in order to enable them to achieve the target of regional civilian rosters.
During the opening session of the meeting, the Head of Civilian Component Mr. Steve Lalande, welcomed all participants and underscored the role of civilians in Peace Support Operations. He informed the participants that coordination, relationship among the AUC, RECs/RMs and Training Centers has been improving over the years; a positive momentum which needs to be maintained. Starting from 1st of July 2019, the regional peace keeper has been placed on standby for the entire continent by the African Union. In this respect, EASF has finalized preparations to identify personnel that will be placed on standby, which includes civilian experts.
The ASC meeting has more than 25 participants who are drawn from the AU Commission, RECs/RMs, African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD), Center for International Peace Operations (ZIF), UNOAU, Deutsche Geselleschaft fuer Internationale Zusammanarbeit GmbH (GIZ), National Defense College of Nigeria (NDC), Training Centers and Technical Partners.
The ASC meeting is fully funded by GIZ.
