Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

Director Meets Rwanda Defence Chiefs

The EASF Director Dr. Abdillahi Omar Bouh held a meeting with top Rwanda Defence Officials on 3rd June 2019 in Kigali, Rwanda.

The aim of the meeting was to update the recently appointed Minister for Defence Major General Albert Murasira on the activities of EASF over the last couple of months as well as accomplishments of the Standby Force ever since its inception in 2004.

Now that EASF has been placed by the African Union as the Continental Standby Force with effect from July to December 2019, it is imperative that all decision makers are duly informed of the preparedness and the respective road-map to accomplish this task. During this period, EASF will be responsible for rolling out Peace Support Operations should conflict situations arise in any part of the African continent. Another point on the day's agenda was to discuss with the Defence Chiefs some of the key areas the next Policy Organs Meetings, planned for July 2019, could also consider.

The successful delivery on EASF's upcoming continental responsibility has demanded that the management focuses on intricate details which could affect the overall execution of the agreed on strategy. As such, planning, mediation and negotiations which are necessary for a sound foundation have taken center stage.

During the meeting with Rwanda Defence Officials, Dr. Bouh was accompanied by Planing Element's (PlanElm) Joint Chief of Staff, Major General (Dr.) Charles Rudakabana.
