Council of Ministers for Defence and Security Meeting in Bujumbura
The Eastern Africa Standby Force’s 26th Ordinary Session of Policy Organs Meetings that started on 8th July 2019 came to an end on 12th July 2019 in Bujumbura, Burundi.
The EASF Policy Organs Meetings have three levels; these are, the Experts Working Group meeting, the Committee of Chiefs of Defense and Security meeting and the Council of Ministers Defense and Security meeting.
The Guest Honor during the official opening of the Council of Ministers for Defence and Security meeting was H.E Gaston Sindimwo, the First Vice President of the Republic of Burundi. In his keynote speech, the First Vice President said, "Through our collective efforts and commitment, the continent is progressing satisfactorily in its quest for lasting peace, security and stability, these efforts will create a more conducive environment for the advancement of our people and the realization of their dream of peace and stability.’’
On his part, the Director of EASF Dr. Abdillahi Omar Bouh appreciated the commitment of all the Member States to regional peace, security and stability. The Director outlined the recent accomplishments made by the organization in line with its mandate. Dr. Bouh commended efforts by all players geared towards constructive resolution of disputes in the region and beyond, whenever they arise.
The Chairperson of the Friends of EASF Col. Joern Rasmussen expressed his appreciation of the 15th anniversary of the creation of the Eastern Africa Standby Force. He underscored that the “Friends of EASF”, comprising 20+ countries, remain focused on the common objective which is working for peace and security in the region. He attributed EASF’s advancement to its strong leadership, support from Member States and commitment to a peaceful Eastern Africa.
The EASF Council of Ministers of Defence and Security meeting ended with a guidance on the implementation of agenda items which the meeting had approved.
