Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

United Nations Officials Visit EASF

A delegation from the United Nations Department of Political and Peace Building Office in Nairobi paid a visit to the Eastern Africa Standby Force's Peace Operations Department at the EASF Secretariat in Nairobi, Kenya on 14th October 2019.

The visit aimed to share experiences and open a window of collaborating in issues of conflict prevention as well as enhance mutual support in capacity building activities.  

During his welcoming speech, the Head of Peace Operations' Department, Brigadier General Henry Isoke underscored the significance of EASF working closely with the United Nations Department of Political and Peace Building in strengthening peace and stability in the region.
 
The Head of Delegation, Ms Ruphina Nalova Mbua Monono, who is the current Head of Political and Peace Building Affairs Department drew parallels in the roles played by the two organizations in building peace and stability in the region. She expressed optimism in the creation of the envisaged partnership having learned more about EASF and it's  role in the field of peace and security. She explained that the visit would pave way in identifying and defining the best possible areas and ways of mutual collaboration between the two organizations.

EASF's Political Officer Mr. Ali Said Ali, gave a presentation about the achievements and challenges of EASF, ever since its inception 2004.
