Enhancing Peace and Security in the Eastern Africa Region

SGBV Investigations' Trainers of Trainers Course Launched

The Eastern Africa Standby Force rolled out a Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) Investigations' course, for Trainers of Trainers (ToT) on 31st January 2022 in Mombasa, Kenya.

Opening the course on behalf of the Director Brig Gen Getachew Shiferaw Fayisa was the Head of Police Component, Colonel Ali Mohamed Robleh. In his keynote speech, Colonel Robleh thanked EASF Member States for availing these officers to take part in the training. He noted with great enthusiasm that the number of female trainers in the region is increasing which positively reflects on concerted efforts to address gender balance on a regional level.

The course aims at building core training capabilities in Police Contributing Countries which will in turn develop specialist SGBV investigators for deployment to Peace Support Operations. The trainers will also be provided with leaning materials and resources required to effectively deliver investigators' training in this field.

During the opening ceremony, the Head of Police Component Colonel Robleh was accompanied by a number of officers from the Standby Force. These were, the Senior Police Technical Adviser D/CSP Bjarne Askholm, Police Training Officer and Regional Facilitator SSP Rachael Munge, and the Police Personnel and Administration Officer SP Diana Nyaminsango.

The course, which has been fully funded by the British Peace Support Team (BPST) Africa in conjunction with the Royal Kingdom of Denmark, comes to a close on 11th February 2022. It is being steered by four facilitators, each from the United Kingdom, Norway, Denmark and EASF.
