EASF Concludes Logistics Map Exercise Training in Addis Ababa

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia - The Logistics Map Exercise Training (MAPEX CONDUCT), which began on September 19, 2024, at the Logistics Base Training Center, is set to conclude tomorrow, September 27, 2024. This initiative, funded by the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), represents a collaborative effort between APSA and the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF).

EASF Force Commander General Getachew Ali Mohamed officially inaugurated the two-week program, alongside Colonel Julien Rwangarambe, Chief of Staff at the Logistics Base.

In his opening remarks, General Getachew underscored the critical role of logistics staff officers in understanding their responsibilities, particularly in the context of African conflicts and the decision-making processes of the African Union (AU) and EASF. He highlighted that the course aims to prepare logistics officers for future EASF mission support to the AU, covering essential areas such as Movement Control (MOVCON), Reception, Staging, Onward Movement and Integration (RSOI), sustainment, and integrated service support.

The training also focuses on practicing the roles and responsibilities of key logistics actors including EASF, Logistics Base, Mission Support (MS), and Headquarters (HQ) before and during AU/EASF-mandated Peace Support Operations (PSO).

21 Military and Civilian personnel from Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Uganda, and the EASF Headquarters participated in this vital training initiative. Designed to equip future Logistics Officers for upcoming Peace Support Operations (PSO) deployments, this pivotal event was conducted over 12 days in two phases: a Final Planning Conference and Exercise training.

The Logistics Map Exercise Training is expected to enhance operational readiness and logistical coordination for future missions across the Eastern Africa Region.
