Ongoing Compliance & Accountability in Peace Support Operations Course Kicks Off in Kigali
Kigali, Rwanda – The Compliance & Accountability in Peace Support Operations Course, which began on August 2, 2024, is currently underway in Kigali and will conclude on August 10, 2024.
Col. David Mutayomba, Chief J7 of the Rwanda Defense Forces, served as the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony. In his remarks, he emphasized the significance of the course, stating that it aims to equip officers from the Eastern African Standby Force (EASF) region with essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes for the effective implementation of child and women protection, International Humanitarian Law, International Human Rights Law, and obligations regarding Conduct and Discipline. He underscored that these competencies are crucial for ensuring civilian protection in peace support operations.
The Lead Facilitator for the course is Mr. Kenneth Abotsi from the African Union. The course includes participants from all member states of the East African Standby Force. In addition to the EASF staff, the course is being attended by three AU facilitators and four regional facilitators, all working together to enhance the capacity of peace support personnel in the region.
